What to Write in an Islamic Get-Well Card

·4 min read

Shifa card messages for someone who is ill. Short duas, what to offer, and how this differs from a sympathy card.

Islamic dua card suitable for a get-well note

A get-well card is for someone who is still here and unwell. A sympathy card is for people who are grieving. Mix those up and the note lands wrong, even when the dua is sincere.

Write their name. Wish them shifa. Offer one thing you will actually do. Stop before you start explaining their illness back to them.

Lines that stay small

“Assalamu alaikum. May Allah grant you shifa and a recovery that is complete. I am making dua for you.”

“Thinking of you. May Allah give you ease in your body and rest in the nights. Tell me if a meal would help this week.”

“Get well soon is too thin on its own. May Allah replace this illness with health, and give your family strength while they look after you.”

What not to write

Do not suggest a treatment. Do not say you know how they feel unless you have been in that same room. Do not send a sympathy card by mistake. Those words are for condolence, not for recovery.

Our Islamic get-well cards are thick card with a kraft envelope. Some have a dua inside. Some are blank, which is often the right choice when the illness is private.
